Mercury In A Mars Sign & Other Thoughts

I was listening to Heather Cox Richardson on the implications of the term "plenary authority" that Miller so casually threw out and then abruptly went silent on in an interview on CNN the other day. The term essentially frames the president as a having the powers of a king, or a dictator. To me, this is so clearly an illustration of Mercury in a Mars sign square Pluto! Mercury under Mars' influence can speak to rash words and "speaking without thinking." Mercury-Pluto contact can speak to “mental fixation,” "extreme or fanatical" thinking, "tendencies to mental domination," and the "breakdown of old philosophical models, or certainties." (These delineations are all from Renn Bulter's excellent book, The Archetypal Universe.)

Furthermore, a quick look at the transits to the Sibley USA chart is fascinating. Transit Jupiter conjunct natal Mercury Rx could be the blurting out or airing of thoughts that could be seen as supposedly 'protective' (Cancer) of the state (but are in fact, actually protective of elite wealth—represented here by the 8H)... Butler describes the principles of Mercury-Jupiter contact as including: “tendencies toward overoptimism, arrogant and boastful speech, exaggeration and overstatment, and taking on or promising more than one can deliver.”

Tr Venus conjunct natal Neptune in the Whole Sign 10H can speak to an attempt to relate (Venus) to the glamour (Neptune) of the state (10H)...Specifically, notice how Miller is quoting all the legalese (Virgo= detail) to sound knowledgeable & confident--even as the actual meanings of what he is quoting are being subverted by any objective view (see HCR Politics Chat, October 7, 2025)--this speaks to Venus in fall, in my opinion.

And tr Sun conjunct natal Saturn could be delineated as the state shining a light on further state/government restriction of legislation and social welfare—both 11H topics in mundane astrology. Once again, in The Archetypal Universe, Butler shares the positive qualities of these two planets coming together first as: “defined self-consciousness, qualities of self-assurance, focused energy & attention, a resonance with people who are older and/or well-established.” The author then goes on to describe the shadow qualities as thus: “rigidity, constriction, stiffness & stuffiness, self-sabotage, oppression by unsympathetic authority figures, a tendency to cling to positions of security.”

Saturn can also speak to rule of law & justice, and high judicial posts....What stands out here for me (and to reiterate, this is all my own opinion) is how Miller came out and attacked a Trump-appointed judge who recently ruled against the administration's efforts to federalize the National Guard from different states to go to Portland. Miller has been describing judges who rule against the Trump administration as “an ongoing legal insurrection” and this comment can also be seen as a manifestation of either tr Jupiter conjunct the Sibley Mercury or tr Sun conjunct the the Sibley Saturn.
