Venus, Mars, and the Lunar Nodes
At a fundamental level, Mars signifies actions--whether they are for offense or defense. And Venus is likewise associated with relationships. Squares are of the nature of Mars and therefore are challenging and indicate friction, but we can also think that squares help us produce change which ultimately can be of benefit to us.
So taking all of that into account, we have a dynamic tension between relationships and actions that are in a sense, asking for change. How do we act in our relationships? Which relationships are worth protecting? How might I feel attacked in certain relationships, or how might being in a certain relationship (not just to a person, but to things and concepts, too!) feel like being in a constant state of war?
At right, is the chart of the moment as I begin writing…
We add in the conjunction of Mars and the South Node to describe an additional layer to these questions. The symbolism of the Lunar Nodes is as multi-valent as that of all the other planets--something that I think gets lost in delineation more times than not.
The South Node can have a purging or detaching effect that may also be aligned with a kind of spiritualizing alchemy. So Mars separating from the South Node may be speaking to actions/strategies associated with the topics where Virgo tenants the natal chart--and may be describing a feeling of detachment or an intentional purging around those topics.
And now we add in Venus square the nodes. Venus is in the North Bending, so Venusian topics (and whatever else Venus represents in your chart) such as relationships are at a critical juncture--a pivot point, if you will.
This well could be connected to the Venus Rx earlier this year as a kind of culmination point. On an individual basis, we are being asked to see a doorway of opportunity and take action on our own behalf regarding the friction coming up in the square with Mars.
In other words, what can we consciously make a decision to let go of in the Virgo (Earth) area of life that allows movement (Gemini/Air) for us to relate to the world in a way that works for us?
The North Node is again, multi-valent, but planets at the north bending are describing a crucial point where decisiveness is required, even as the Gemini energy makes this difficult with its myriad ways of seeing things.
The north bending is a focal point for individual action. Remember, Rahu is the head, and so contains the brain. Contrary to popular thought, the brain did not initially evolve for us to think, it evolved for us TO MOVE. The north bending is where movement or doing is required, whilst the south bending is where stillness, or being is paramount.
The final point I'll add here is that we have to take into consideration what houses the transiting nodes are occupying in your chart, but it's worth remembering that the transiting nodes will echo certain elements of your natal nodal axis, too.
But to keep it simple, what house is Venus in Gemini transiting in your chart? And what house is transiting Mars found in? This should be the starting point in analyzing your own chart for the overall picture of these transits.
